Reflecting on the ways of this world over the last 12 months

Bayeux war correspondent photo competition - Pupils’ articles in English on the photo of their choice out of the 20 in the competition.

This year’s event in terms of the exploration of our world’s recent history through a selection of 20 prominent photo journalists’ works has obviously very much focused on the repercussions on our societies of the covid-19 pandemic, but this obviously was not the only aspect covered, as the articles we present to you display.

Emi Jeanne, of 3A, was designated by her class in order to have her article published on our school site. Well done, Emi !

« This photo was taken during the coronavirus period in 2020. The photo is touching because during this period, older people could not go out to see their families.
This picture touches me because it shows the love between mother and daughter. There are a lot of precautions so as not to let the coronavirus spread in the family. We can see that there is a plastic curtain that protects the person. We can also see that the nurse has a headnet on, gloves, a mask and a white coat. It is a rather moving scene. We can feel that the two people are meeting, giving each other a real hug, because they have not seen each other for a long time and may not see each other again. »

As for Mila Girot, she has had her redition of a different photograph selected by 3B. Here is her elaboration. Congratulations to her !

"I chose this photo because I think it represents the year very well.
During the lockdown I heard much about « Black Lives Matter ».
There has been campains on social networks. It started with the death of George Floyd, a black man killed by a white policeman, on May 25th, 2020. And after this, there has been many demonstrations around the world.
In a newspaper, I read that « racism in America is like dust in the air ». And I totally agree with that.
This photo was taken in London by Daniel Leas-Oliveas on June 13th, 2020. I find this photo really shocking, enigmatic and conscience-stirring, because we can see a white man in the middle of the photo, carried to safety by black men. There are many people around. We can’t see the ground. In the foreground, we can see a black man with his shirt off and a helmet on. He is holding the white man’s arm as if he wanted to get him out of the crowd. Some people are wearing scarves and masks, but not all. All the people in the photo are looking at this white man who needs to be saved.
I totally agree with Black Lives Matter, because for me, racism shouldn’t exist.
We are all the same."
